Windcrest

Windcrest, often called the “City of Lights,” is known for its stunning Christmas displays.  Located 11 miles North East from downtown San Antonio, a metropolitan area of over 2 million, Windcrest is centered in one of the fastest growing regions in the Country. As the city of Windcrest continues to develop, local attractions such as restaurants, hotels, and shopping centers are being built to take advantage of economic growth.

The City of Windcrest was incorporated in 1959 by Murray and Barbee Winn who sought to create a unique community where people could live and raise their families in a tranquil and safe environment. Today, our city is a thriving suburban hamlet conveniently located in the northeast area of San Antonio, Texas, the seventh largest city in the U.S., along the IH 35 North corridor with quaint mid-century architecture, live oaks, homes with modern design, quiet streets and thriving businesses. With a citizen population of approximately 6,000, residents enjoy a localized, small-town atmosphere with lush parks and exceptional city services such as a truly professional Police Department protecting the city 24/7/365, an incredible Volunteer Fire Department, vigorously maintained City streets, and first-class water from two providers.

In excess of 250,000 visitors and vehicles travel through the city daily.  Known nationally for our annual holiday light display, the future for “The City of Lights” is very bright.

One of Windcrest’s homes is becoming nationally famous as homeowners have been selected to compete in Season 9 of ABC’s “Great Christmas Light Fight” which airs in November and December, 2021.

Rackspace is the largest employer in Windcrest and is also one of the leading internet-hosting companies in the world. Rackspace employs nearly 2,000 people in the San Antonio area, 6,200 globally, and is headquartered in Windcrest. The IT solutions giant handles database management, business intelligence, and enterprise resource planning, among many other critical services, contributing to San Antonio’s lead role as Cyber City U.S.A.
